Location: South India

This is the painting trip of a lifetime. Threka has invited  Susanna Bailey to tutor in Painting while we explore the Heritage Cities and Gardens of  Mysore and Ootty and visit the jungles and lakes of Karnataka, and Kerala. Over the course of 12 days we will visit the Palaces and Temples in Mysore, we will move up to the spectacular Nilgiry Hills and see the tea plantations by train, before settling into the deep green jungle for three days to paint the flora and fauna. You will have the chance to paint the buildings, people, markets and gardens, paint from nature, and learn about the traditions which craft the local arts, and form the backdrop of tremendous colours for the fabrics found in this unique part of the world.   Every day your tutor introduces you to the subjects through carefully designed workshops tailored for painters of all levels. Each location has a cool studio area where you can relax and work. A vibrant palette of greens , of pinks and yellows and glorious blues await your arrival. You will discover a little of India’s rich history along the way and even have time to just sit and think, and drift on the heady experiences of this very authentic journey. .

Susanna Bailey first travelled as an artist when she won the Nancy Balfour Scholarship during her post graduate years at the Slade School. This fuelled her love of drawing and painting and has taken her all over the world as a tutor, and as a working artist. Susanna is a colourist who works in several media, specialising in watercolour. Charismatic, popular and fun, she believes that careful teaching covering sketching, colour, composition, and the best use of available materials, will lead to real confidence, and wonderful paintings. Her approach is to give a structured week through demonstration, and one-to-one tuition. She enjoys sharing her love of art history.
